- SOTA is an audition-based, alternative high school committed to fostering equity and excelling in both arts and academics.
- Rooted in its vision of artistic excellence, SOTA offers a unique educational experience emphasizing arts, with 6 specialized programs to reflect San Francisco's cultural diversity: DANCE: Conservatory Dance, World Dance, MUSIC: Band, Orchestra, Guitar, Piano, Vocal, and World Music, MEDIA & FILM, THEATRE: Acting, Musical Theatre, THEATER TECHNOLOGY: Costumes, Stagecraft, VISUAL: Drawing & Painting, Architecture & Design.
- To integrate arts and academics, all SOTA students have art blocks every afternoon, and uniquely, they have an Artists-In-Residence Program partly funded through donations.

Help where and when it works best for you. Ruth Asawa School of the Arts (SOTA) values all community volunteers and we’ve got volunteer roles that match your skills and your schedule.
You can sign up as a short-term/ after hours volunteer and we will help connect you with the school community, or sign up as a recurring school day volunteer through the San Francisco Ed Fund.
During The School Day
A once-a-week volunteer commitment through the SF Education Fund to support classrooms, teachers, and students during the school day. You choose from their list of options.
